The story

Death Note introduces Light Yagami, a genius high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook, the Death Note, dropped into the human world by a shinigami named Ryuk. This black notepad grants Light the power to kill anyone whose name he writes within its pages. Driven by a desire to purge the world of perceived evil, Light begins a secret campaign to eliminate criminals, believing he can create a utopian society.

His actions, however, quickly attract the attention of law enforcement and an enigmatic, highly intelligent detective known only as L. The ensuing cat-and-mouse game forms the core of the narrative, as L attempts to identify and apprehend the mysterious killer, dubbed "Kira" by the public, while Light uses his intellect and the Death Note's power to evade capture and continue his deadly mission. The series explores the moral implications of wielding such absolute power and the profound consequences of one individual's attempt to reshape the world through death.
