The story
The Future Diary, directed by Naoto Hosoda, centers on Yukiteru Amano, an introverted high school student who prefers observing the world through his phone diary. His only companions are his imaginary friends, Deus Ex Machina, the God of Time and Space, and his assistant, Murmur. Yukiteru’s isolated existence shatters when Deus reveals himself to be real and forces Yukiteru into a deadly game alongside eleven other participants.
Each contestant in this battle royale possesses a unique "Future Diary," a device that predicts events in various ways, offering both strategic advantages and critical weaknesses. The objective is simple: eliminate all other diary holders within 90 days. The last survivor will inherit the mantle of God of Time and Space, a position of immense power. This high-stakes death game drives the narrative, exploring the psychological toll of survival and the moral compromises made when divinity is the ultimate prize.
