- What are anime screencaps?
- Frames captured directly from an anime film or episode, as opposed to promotional art or key visuals. They show the animation as it was actually composited and graded, which is why they are what people use for reference, edits and study.
- How many anime titles does FrameThrower have?
- 48 anime films and series, 3,386 frames, inside a wider catalogue of 5,489 films. Every frame is indexed on lighting key and quality, shot size, camera angle, colour palette in hex, mood and era — the same treatment live action gets.
- Can I search anime screencaps by what is in the frame?
- Yes, and that is the difference from a screencap archive. Describe a shot — "wide, night exterior, cool palette, single figure" — and matching frames come back across the whole catalogue. You can also search from a reference image, or by colour.
- Are anime frames indexed the same way as live action?
- Yes. Lighting, lens character, shot size, camera angle, colour and mood are extracted per frame regardless of medium. Lens character is the one attribute that means something different in animation — it describes the rendered look rather than physical glass.
- Can I use these frames?
- They are shown at reduced resolution as references for commentary, education and study. The frames are not ours to license and rights remain with their owners — see our intended-use page. Crediting the title is expected practice when you use one as reference.
