The story
Hotaru, a young girl, finds herself lost in a supernatural forest populated by apparitions. There, she encounters Gin, a mysterious boy with a unique condition: he is a spirit-like being who will cease to exist if any human makes physical contact with him. Despite this unusual barrier, Hotaru and Gin develop a friendship that blossoms as Hotaru visits the forest each summer.
Their relationship forms the core of the narrative, exploring the emotional complexities of a bond that can never be physically expressed. As Hotaru grows older, her feelings for Gin deepen, but the constant threat of his disappearance looms over them. The story hinges on their struggle to maintain their connection while navigating the impossible boundary that defines Gin's existence and the potential heartbreak that awaits them.
