The story

Soul Eater centers on the students of the Death Weapon Meister Academy, a technical school for weapon meisters and their human weapon partners. The primary focus is on three distinct duos: Maka Albarn and her scythe-weapon Soul Eater; the assassin Black Star and his weapon Tsubaki; and Death the Kid, a shinigami, with his twin pistol weapons Liz and Patty Thompson. These students attend school while also undertaking dangerous missions to achieve their ultimate goal.

The central objective for each meister-weapon team is to transform their human weapon into a "Death Scythe," the highest possible rank, making them suitable for use by the Shinigami. To accomplish this, they must collect 99 evil human souls and one witch's soul. As they strive to gather these souls, the students are also responsible for defending Death City from various powerful supernatural creatures, balancing their academic pursuits with the constant threat of danger.
