The story

Houtarou Oreki, a high schooler who prefers to conserve his energy, is persuaded by his sister to join the Classic Literature Club. This decision unexpectedly immerses him in the club's long and complex history, particularly a significant 45-year-old mystery connected to their clubroom. Despite his initial reluctance, Oreki finds himself drawn into investigating this historical puzzle.

He is joined by his fellow club members: the well-informed Satoshi Fukube, the serious yet kind Mayaka Ibara, and the perpetually inquisitive Eru Chitanda. Together, they must use their ingenuity and Oreki's latent talents to uncover the truth behind the club's past, often facing challenges like tight deadlines and limited information. The story is driven by their efforts to solve both this overarching mystery and various smaller cases that arise within their school life.
