The story
Gurren Lagann begins in a future where humanity is confined to subterranean villages, unaware of a surface world. Simon, a timid young digger, unearths a mysterious object in his village, Jiha. He is befriended by the charismatic Kamina, who dreams of reaching the surface. Together, they form the Gurren Brigade, defying the village elder's skepticism and aiming to break through the cave ceiling.
Their aspirations are accelerated when a threat from the world above endangers Jiha. Simon, Kamina, and the sharpshooting Yoko join forces with a small robot, Lagann, to defend their home. This encounter propels them to the surface, a brutal landscape dominated by Beastmen. The narrative then follows their struggle against these oppressors, driven by the desire to reclaim the surface for humanity.
