The story
Violet Evergarden, a former child soldier, now works as an Auto Memory Doll, a ghostwriter who crafts letters for clients unable to articulate their own emotions. Her work often involves translating complex feelings into written words. She is a female protagonist in a foreign setting, navigating her new profession and the world around her.
The story is driven by Violet's encounters with various clients, particularly a terminally ill boy who requests her services for his family. This assignment forces Violet to confront her own buried feelings of love and loss. The central conflict revolves around her processing her past, specifically the death of her Major, and understanding her own emotions while continuing to write for others.
