The story
Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo (2012) follows high school student Sorata Kanda, who is exiled to Sakura Hall, a dorm for the school's most unusual students, after being caught with a stray cat. He finds himself surrounded by a diverse group of residents, including the outgoing Jin, the reclusive Ryuunosuke, and the brilliant yet utterly helpless artist Mashiro Shiina. Sorata is immediately tasked by dorm supervisor Ms. Sengoku with the responsibility of caring for Mashiro, who struggles with basic daily tasks despite her artistic genius.
This unexpected guardianship forms the core of the narrative. Sorata grapples with the challenges of looking after Mashiro while navigating his own aspirations and the eccentricities of his new dorm mates. The series explores the development of their found family dynamic, the humorous and dramatic situations that arise from their contrasting personalities, and the individual coming-of-age journeys of each resident as they strive to find their place and pursue their dreams.
