The story
Cid Kageno, a young man obsessed with operating from the shadows, is reborn into a fantasy world and seizes the opportunity to live out his ultimate power fantasy. He establishes Shadow Garden, a clandestine organization, and fabricates an elaborate backstory about a malevolent cult they must oppose. Cid, acting as the enigmatic leader Shadow, revels in his role as a mastermind pulling strings from behind the scenes, all while believing his entire endeavor is a grand, self-indulgent game.
The true conflict arises when Cid’s fabricated cult turns out to be very real and incredibly dangerous. This genuine threat, completely unforeseen by Cid, throws his carefully constructed charade into disarray. The story is driven by Cid’s attempts to maintain his "eminence in shadow" while unknowingly disrupting the actual cult's plans, creating a constant tension between his chuunibyou fantasies and the genuine peril he and Shadow Garden face. The stakes involve the fate of the world, unknowingly resting on Cid's deluded actions.
