The story
Porco Rosso, a former World War I pilot now living under a mysterious anthropomorphic curse as a pig, operates as an independent bounty hunter in the Adriatic Sea. He frequently thwarts the exploits of various sky pirate gangs, who, frustrated by his repeated interference, decide to hire a rival American pilot named Curtis to eliminate him. This sets the stage for a series of aerial confrontations.
Beyond the dogfights, the narrative is also driven by Porco’s complex relationship with Gina, a lounge owner and singer, for whose affections both Porco and Curtis compete. As Porco navigates these personal and professional challenges, the story delves into the consequences of his curse, his past, and the ongoing struggle for freedom and honor in the skies. The stakes involve Porco's livelihood, his life, and the future of his relationships.
