The story

Fourteen years after the devastating Third Impact, Shinji Ikari awakens to a world utterly transformed and unfamiliar. He finds himself unaged, while the Earth lies largely in ruins. His former organization, Nerv, has been dismantled, and those he once sought to protect now view him as an adversary. This dramatic shift in allegiance and the desolate landscape set the stage for a new chapter in the ongoing conflict.

Shinji soon encounters the enigmatic Nagisa Kaworu, forming an unexpected bond as they navigate the treacherous new reality. The battle against the Angels persists, but the lines between friend and foe blur, as Shinji realizes the fight may now extend to his former allies. The characters' internal struggles and external battles escalate, pushing them toward what could be the ultimate destruction of the world.
