Directing style

Weerasethakul’s visual style relies on wide, establishing, and medium compositions filmed almost exclusively from an eye-level camera angle to ground his blend of drama, romance, and fantasy. He favors deep-focus staging in daylight exteriors illuminated by the sun, as well as interiors shaped by window light or fluorescent fixtures, which together evoke lonely, tense, and ominous moods. The color design leans toward cool, desaturated tones, black-and-white sequences, and a recurring palette of deep forest greens, murky teals, shadowed olives, and stark, sterile grays.
