The story
In an alternate Edo-period Japan, the Amanto, a powerful alien race, have invaded and conquered the country. Their arrival brought advanced technology and new societal norms, including a public ban on carrying swords, which left many samurai without purpose. Gintoki Sakata, a former samurai with a penchant for avoiding traditional employment, establishes the Yorozuya Gin-chan, an odd-jobs business.
Gintoki, along with his young apprentice Shinpachi Shimura and the alien girl Kagura, takes on any task offered, provided the pay is sufficient. Their assignments often involve navigating a bizarre world filled with various alien species, criminal organizations, and eccentric individuals. The series explores their daily struggles and adventures, highlighting the challenges of making a living and finding one's place in a drastically altered society, often with comedic and dramatic consequences.
