Directing style

Hellman’s visual style relies on a grounded, eye-level perspective that favors medium and wide compositions, capturing characters against expansive day exteriors. He utilizes natural sunlight to illuminate dusty, desaturated landscapes dominated by muted earth tones, weathered grays, and cool, slate-blue skies. The camera maintains a tense, lonely observation of its subjects, balancing deep space against a shallow depth of field to isolate figures within their environments.
