Directing style

Bettinelli-Olpin anchors his tense horror-thriller narratives in dark, shallow-depth-of-field interiors, staging the majority of his scenes at night. He favors eye-level medium shots and closeups that isolate characters against soft, out-of-focus backgrounds, relying heavily on practical lighting and screen glows to pierce the darkness. His color palette leans toward a cool, desaturated grade dominated by deep shadows, slate blues, and muted earth tones, occasionally punctured by warm, organic accents.
