Directing style

Unkrich structures his animated worlds primarily through exterior, night-time compositions, favoring wide and medium shots framed at eye level to ground the viewer within the space. He maintains a nearly even balance between deep and shallow depth of field, illuminated by a mix of natural sunlight, window light, and vibrant neon sources. The visual atmosphere leans toward a saturated, technicolor aesthetic dominated by rich purples, deep violets, and glowing oranges, punctuated by sharp accents of magenta and cyan.
