Wolkstein builds a tense, lonely atmosphere primarily through intimate, eye-level medium shots and closeups rendered with a shallow depth of field. Her interior-heavy scenes rely on naturalistic, directional light sources—chiefly daylight streaming through windows and cool fluorescent fixtures—to illuminate subjects against a muted, desaturated color palette of slate blues, sage greens, and cold grays.
