Directing style
Helander's visual language relies on a tense, lonely atmosphere built primarily through eye-level medium and wide shots captured in rugged, daylight exteriors. He favors a cool, desaturated color grade dominated by slate grays, muted forest greens, and earthy, dusty tones, occasionally punctured by the warm glow of practicals or firelight. To isolate his characters within these hostile landscapes, he frequently employs a shallow depth of field, keeping the focus locked onto the immediate physical struggle of the action.
