Directing style

Miyazaki’s compositions favor expansive exterior views, relying heavily on wide and establishing shots captured at eye-level to ground his animated fantasy worlds. Scenes are characterized by a deep depth of field and illuminated primarily by natural daylight, utilizing direct sun and window light to shape the environments. The visual palette is defined by a earthy, organic color range featuring rich forest greens, deep sky blues, and warm terracotta and orange tones, which maintain their saturation across both day and night settings.
