Directing style
Chris McKay’s visual style anchors tense, chaotic action and science fiction narratives in a predominantly cool, desaturated palette, punctuated by warm accents of firelight, sun, and deep red. He favors interior and night settings, utilizing a shallow depth of field to isolate subjects within medium shots and closeups captured almost exclusively from eye-level camera angles. The lighting relies heavily on naturalistic and industrial sources, blending direct sunlight with practicals and fluorescent fixtures to maintain an ominous, grounded atmosphere.
