Directing style
Sciamma builds her intimate dramas around eye-level blocking, favoring medium shots and closeups over wider compositions to keep the camera physically and emotionally aligned with her characters. Her interiors are defined by soft, naturalistic lighting cast from windows or practical sources, rendering quiet, lonely, or tense moments through a shallow depth of field that isolates subjects from their backgrounds. The visual palette leans heavily toward cool, desaturated tones, balancing deep slates, teals, and muted greys against warm, earthy ochres and soft wood tones.
