Radu Jude is a Romanian film director and screenwriter born in Bucharest in 1977, known for his complex, often political, and anarchic films that explore historical memory, labor, and contemporary society. Directing style

Radu Jude’s cinematography favors a stark, observational realism, relying heavily on eye-level camera angles and a nearly equal balance of shallow and deep focus to frame medium shots, closeups, and wide compositions. The visual palette is defined by a dominant black-and-white aesthetic, occasionally shifting to cool, desaturated tones, with scenes captured under natural day exteriors lit by the sun or interior spaces shaped by window light, fluorescents, and practical fixtures. This naturalistic approach to lighting and blocking establishes a tonal tension, blending comedy and drama to evoke a lonely, quietly tense atmosphere.
